The Stone Cross is located in Perkinsville, NY, almost literally in the middle of nowhere. There are many local myths that surrounded this sculpture and it what prompted our investigation of it. Local Myths include;
Equipment used; camcorder with IR light, digital camera, EMF detector, digital
thermometer and voice recorder. Investigators on site; Jennifer and Tim Time;
10pm to 2 am EMF base rate; .1 to .4 Gauss consistently. Temperature and conditions;
76 degrees F on a clear night. We were able to debunk the myths of the witch
and the white dogs due to the fact that nothing happened at or around midnight.
We did not capture any evidence at all including personal experiences. After
some research on the sculpture itself, we learned that the Stone Cross was built
in 1949 by Nicholas Morsch in a tribute to his mother. Nicolas’s mother
has always wanted to honor the early settlers of the region and this sculpture
is how Nicolas represented that. The cross is marking the site of the first church
in the area. This is where both Catholic and Protestant worshipped. It
is reported that there is also a small cemetery for some of these settlers, although
it could not be located by TWPG due to lack of markers.

After speaking to many locals…the Stone Cross was a highly popular party
spot and probably the spur of many myths.
